I just finished reading (listening to) "America's First Daughter", a book about Thomas Jefferson's eldest daughter, written by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie. It was a lengthy novel but intriguing due to the fact that it chronicled not only Patsy Jefferson's life but, her father's from her perspective. I also found her perspective of slavery interesting, she detested it, yet, her father and her both owned slaves; at the end of her life she could have freed the individuals left to her but she was scared of impoverishment. As a woman, she was not allowed property but her father left her everything, even his debts. It was a little depressing being taken back to when women and black Americans were property and treated as such. In that respect, they did have to be crafty in order to survive, and influence others around them to reach their own goals.
Decent "read". My sister also recommended "Girl Wash Your Face", which I am starting next. Anyone else have any good recommendations?
